The Huntington Society of Canada funds a new collaborative study between the NerudyPhagy Lab & the NeuroPalm (Sanders) & Alpaugh Labs at the University of Guelph
Dr. Martin is a Brain Canada - Future Leaders of Canadian Brain Research!
This project will go towards mapping the genetics of people with Multisystem Proteinopathy (MSP) & Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) to develop new genetic targets alongside a new delivery method. I need to thank my collaborators and the continued support from Cure VCP Disease, Nathan Peck, Allison Peck
MSP is a rare disease that includes a cluster of diseases that affect the brain (frontotemporal dementia), bone (Paget's Bone Disease), and muscles (Inclusion Body Myopathy) caused by mutation in the VCP gene. Patients with MSP can develop any combinations of these diseases, along with ALS.
Please spend a bit of time familiarizing yourself with VCP Disease and consider making a donation https://www.curevcp.org. It's a rare disease that needs more awareness to move research and treatments forward.
For those interested in further supporting this crucial research, please reach out to Meaghan Middleton (meaghan.middleton@uwaterloo.ca), the Director of Advancement in the Faculty of Science. By leaving a gift, you will help Martin and his team advance the search to discover new therapeutic targets VCP Disease and ALS.

Congratulations to Anthony for being awarded the Professor Marilyn Griffith Senior Honours Project Excellence Award for his Biol 499 project entitled “I screen, you screen, we all screen….for drugs to treat multisystem proteinopathy”
Congratulations to Anthony for receiving the Alumni Gold Medal!
Congratulations to Anthony Dang for receiving a Summer Fellowship from Brain Canada & the Huntington Society of Canada.
NeurdyPhagy is Walking For ALS
The NeurdyPhagy Lab is pleased to announce that we will be taking part in the Walk For ALS again to help raise funds for ALS Canada. Funds go to support ALS patients and thier families, as well as research (like ours!). Please consider making a donation by clicking on the link below.
Yasmeen Alshehabi receives a CGS-M from CIHR & University of Waterloo President's Graduate Scholarship to study palmitoylation and protein clearance in ALS & Huntington disease.
The NeurdyPhagy is funded by ALS Canada & Brain Canada
